2008 will be a very busy year
for the Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP Branch. Committees have met
and are now implementing their action plans for 2008. Our treasurer
and secretary are completing their end of the year reports and the
president has compiled a summary report to share with Sponsors,
Corporations and Organizations interested in partnering with our
Branch. I would like to thank Mannatt, Phelps and Phillips who have
agreed to co-sponsor the development of a Southern California
Justice Center.
I would like to thank Rev. Joyce
Randall, Chairperson for the Education Committee. She is currently
coordinating an educational seminar scheduled for April of 2008. The
conference topic will be “Creating Great Public Schools through
Minority Community Outreach.” The Branch ACT-SO is recruiting high
school students for this year’s ACT-SO competition in March. The
winners will attend the Act-SO National competition in Orlando,
Florida in July 2008. The Branch College Unit is planning for a
panel discussion on “Minorities in the Media.” The events are
scheduled for February on the Cal State University of Northridge
campus.
The Health Committee is
developing a Health Disparities and Mental Health pamphlet,
PowerPoint presentation, and television taping to promote health
awareness programs.
Membership in the veterans
committee has increased from four to eight members. James Hadley
Chair and Joyce Clark Program Chair have begun Planning for the
Fourth Veterans Luncheon and Youth Drill Competition.
Kim Jones, Membership chair, and
Jacy Stewart, IT Chair, continue to work diligently on updating the
membership roster. And resolve membership problems. Both ladies are
hoping to add members to their committees to enhance their ability
to support all activity committees.
The Theatre Planning Committee
chairs and the Theatre Awards Executive Director, Tia Boyd, is
aggressively coordinating activities for the Theatre Awards in June
2008. The branch continues to benefit from First Vice President
Willis Edwards’ commitment to community advocacy We look forward to
his report on the February National Board activities.
The branch continues to
encourage all members to get involve with a committee of interest.
This is your branch and your involvements will help us grow.
